THE MAP SHOPは、デザイン・アート＋マップをコンセプトに、地図に関連するモノやコトを皆さんにお届けするShopです。
「“世界はひとつ” “世界の平和” “持続可能な社会”」を中心テーマに据え、世界地図で世界のモノ、人、情報をつなげられたらという想いで運営しております。
世界地図というと、単純に場所を知る“実用的な道具”と言う印象がありますが、単なる実用的な道具に留まらず、もっと人と人や、心・情報・モノを繋ぐキーアイテムとして機能したらいいなあ、と漠然と想っています。私自身、地図を眺めるのが好きな人間です。ただ眺めているだけで色んな想いが頭を巡ります。世界地図上のある場所をながめていると、この場所に住む人々はどんな生活をしているのだろうか、どんな風景が広がっているのだろうかとか、どんどん想像が膨らみます。 また旅をしたことのある場所を地図で見返して、その思い出を呼び起こすきっかけになったりもします。 地図好きで同じような人は意外と多いと思いまが、そのような方に共感頂ければうれしいです。さらに今地図好きではないけど、このサイトをきっかけに地図が好きになったり、世界に興味が沸いてきた、なんていう人が増えればいいなあと思います。
地図で見ると世界はちっぽけなもののように感じますが、その世界は我々の命を育む事が出来る唯一の場所、地球です。今その地球環境が取り返しの付かない状況に陥り始めています。それは各地で、異常気象として表に出て来ているのです。異常熱波、異常低温、豪雨、永久凍土の融解、氷河の減少、北極圏の氷の減少などさまざまな形で猛威を振るい始めている状況です。何もしなければこの状況はますますひどくなることでしょう。このままで良いのでしょうか？このたった一つしか無い私たちの地球を未来の人々に受け継ぐことが出来ないとしたらものすごく悲しいことです。私たち1人1人がどんな形でもその影響を食い止める意識と行動が必要だと思います。THE MAP SHOPでも何か出来ないかと言うことを模索しながら進んでいこうと思います。

I have the impression that a world map is simply a "practical tool to know a place", but I have a vague idea that it should not be just a practical tool, but should function as a key item to connect people to people, minds, information and things. I myself am a person who likes to look at maps. Just looking at it makes me think of all sorts of things. When I look at a place on the world map, I can't help but imagine how the people who live there live, and what kind of scenery it will look like. It's also an opportunity to look back at a map of a place you've traveled to and bring back those memories. I'm sure there are many people who like maps, but I'm glad if you can relate to them. I also hope that more and more people will come to love maps or become interested in the world through this site, even though they don't like maps at the moment.
The world seems small when you look at it on a map, but that world is the only place that can nurture our lives - the earth. Now the global environment is starting to fall into an irreversible situation. It has come to the surface as abnormal weather in many places. The situation is beginning to rage on in various ways, including extreme heat waves, extreme low temperatures, heavy rainfall, permafrost thawing, glacier loss, and Arctic ice loss. If nothing is done, this situation will only get worse. Is this the right way to go? It would be very sad if we can't pass on our one and only earth to the people of the future. I think it is necessary for each of us to have awareness and action to stop the influence even in any form.
